This site is part of a research project at the University of Glasgow on the early history of popular music as it appeared on television from Scotland.

It spans the period from the first BBC tv broadcasts from Scotland in 1952 until 1985 and covers both independent television and the BBC.

The picture on the left shows two early stars of the television era – Andy Stewart and Jimmy Shand – on the most famous Scottish show of the time, The White Heather Club.

The site is named after a BBC Scotland pop music show from 1965/6 and is designed to document the work in progress as the research develops.

Short articles and clips of some of the shows in question will appear on the stories and clips page and the timeline will outline some of the key shows, musicians and personalities involved.

By the end of the project, it aims to be be an extensive resource of shows, artists, dates and appearances.

There is a long way to go, so please be patient in the meantime!
